From fancy new cars, nice restaurants and posh hotel stays, union bosses are living large off the back of their dues-paying members.  Click here for all the details, but be sure to check out the following:

Cars, cars and more cars....

In 2012, 18 unions spent $855,741 buying brand new cars

  • How would you like a brand new Buick LaCrosse?  Union bosses love their perks, and particularly their cars- just ask the boss of the Asbestos Workers Union Local 6.

But that's just part of the story.  The union bosses who didn't buy cars for themselves simply leased $951,308 worth of new vehicles.  These unions also racked up $703,616 in car loans

Dinner is served...

Union bosses also were not shy about spending lavishly on food.

  • The Massachusetts Building Trades Council has spent close to $80,000 over the last 4 years on clambakes!  We guess they don't care about their 28,000 members, who according to Frank Callahan, are out of work and presumably are finding it tough to put food on their tables.  But whatever.  Check out the reports for 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 and look for Steam Kettle Clambakes.

  • Painters Local 35 spent $5,776 for a BBQ and another $7,433 on Chinese food for their Christmas party. And that's on top of and an additional $7,928 dining out.  See it listed here on page 10 of 16

Now I rest my weary head...

Bosses racked up big bills while enjoying stays at luxury hotels and resorts, all while their dues-paying members take Stay-cations

  • Operators Local 4 spent a whopping $10,812 for a comfortable visit at the upscale Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs, NY and blew another $5,880 on a stay at the Washington Court Hotel in DC.  See them listed here on page 11 of 12
